TRAVEL TIPS
Bangalore and its surroundings where you are likely to travel
for your outdoor or adventure trip has a mild climate so you
should travel light.
CLOTHES
Light cotton clothes, T- shirts, shorts, comfortable track pants
(for treks and jungle walks) a light jacket preferably wind
and waterproof. For all outdoor activities forest friendly colours
like khaki, olive green, brown or camouflage are recommended.
SHOES
Comfortable walking shoes that are broken in should do for most
activities. For fishing and water sports sandals would be preferable,
as you are likely to be in water.
SUN PROTECTION
Bangalore’s benign weather can be deceptive as the sun
is strong and UV radiation high even on cloudy days. Sunscreen,
sun hats, scarves and appropriate clothing to protect exposed
skin from the sun are necessary.
INSECT REPELLENT
The outdoors are bound to have mosquitoes and other insects
that can sting, so suitable repellants should be used. Protection
against malaria is also advisable. Those allergic to insect
stings and bites should carry appropriate medication.
OUTDOOR GEAR
Cameras, binoculars, fishing gear for serious anglers and a
daypack should be carried. Life jackets / flotation devises
are provided for water based activities.
HYDRATION
All outdoor activity leads to dehydration so drink plenty of
water and always carry a bottle of drinking water with you.
FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION
For all the guided tours OutRigor selects resorts, lodges
and home stays which offer good value. At some destinations
choice is either limited or non-existent. Luxury is rare to
find in the outdoors so do not expect swimming pools, televisions
and room service! The food is largely Indian and a request for
mildly spiced food is generally entertained.
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available.
Bottled drinking water is available but has to be paid for.
Most places either serve or allow the consumption of alcoholic
beverages.
